Crataegus crus-galli

Our New Year’s Day hike this year was close to home- in the misty hills of the Hoyt Arboretum, where I came across these fruited Hawthorns. The moisture hung on the lichens and tips of swelling buds of the Snakebark maple. We wandered all around, almost losing our way a few times. It was exciting to find new unfamiliar places in one of our favorite Portland spots- I had never been in the Magnolia walk or the Winter Garden before.
