Chocolate mole at Neyda’s

The secret ingredient is ground nuts, not meat as I kept suspecting in my paranoid way. Some versions call for chicken stock, lard or ground pork, but it can easily be made vegetarian. Ingredients can include fried crushed tortilla strips, white bread, sesame seeds, walnuts, almonds, many kinds of chilies, cinnamon, chocolate, onions, garlic, anise, raisins, cilantro, peppercorns, oregano, thyme, bay and tomatoes.

Today was a gorgeous fall day, clouds coming and going across the sky. Michael and I stopped at my coworker Neyda’s place before heading to Kim and Kjell’s (for a pie-luck). Neyda had a nice party for her teenage son’s birthday.
