Spreading evergreen shrub that grows 2 to 3 feet high. It likes sun to part shade and well-drained, moist, organic soil. In spring small white or light pink flowers bloom in clusters along the branches. The edible berries are pink, violet, red or dark purple. It is hardy to zone 6. It has few pests or diseases.
This shrub has good potential as a landscape plant, it can be grown in containers or be sheared into a small hedge. Locally available cultivars include ‘Snowdrop’ and ‘Pink Snowdrop’. It is self-fertile but fruit set is increased when several plants are growing near each other.
