Calceolaria arachnoidea

Capachito, Pouch flower, Slipperwort
SCROPHULARIACEAE, The Snapdragon family

This is the plant today just because it is so interesting looking. We have it in the nursery in 4″ pots. The long silver leaves form rosettes which make a striking backdrop for the deep purple flowers on 2′ tall stems. As the name suggests the blooms are shaped like fat little pouches.

This perennial is hardy in zones 6 to 9. It likes full sun and is drought tolerant. Lovely in rock gardens and potentially cool in containers.
