Miscanthus ‘Morning Light’
POACEAE, The Grass family
This ornamental grass has a very upright, delicate appearance, yet each blade is very strong. I took notice of this cultivar when I saw landscape designer Annie W. using it in a lot of her designs. It’s somewhat shade tolerant compared to other grasses its size. A new client has an ambitious project, with a deadline. She’s an interior designer with an engagement party coming up soon. I love to see the work people go through to make their homes their own. In this case two square raised beds on either side of a patio will hold black bamboo with smooth black stones around the culms. The concrete patio has been hand-dyed, four colors were layered on with sponges. Along the side of the house a tall cedar fence encloses a narrow space. The fence has a panel of birch wicker along the top. A bed at its base is only a foot or so wide. One of the plants I chose was this maiden grass. Others were Equisetum, Akebia quinata, Heuchera ‘Obsidian’, and Cimicifuga ‘Black Negligee’.
