Anemone blanda

Greek windflower
RANUNCULACEAE, The Ranunculus family
Delicate stalks, intense blue-purple petals. The flowers close up at night.
The foliage is dark green, divided. Half way up the stem a ring of leaves comes out, framing the flower. A charm anemones have. I like all anemones. Especially the ones with black stamens. And the Japanese windflowers that spread wildly, I’m glad they do. And the native anemones in Minnesota, both the white mayflowers in the moist places and the small ones in the woods and bluffs. I like remembering how my taxonomy professor told us some people pronounce it an-eh-MOAN-ee. I say an-NEM-oh-nee. My family says An-EN-emy. Rue an enemy. Would an enemy? It’s a nice word. Greek windflower is the prettiest thing I have seen today.
Show here in front of the hardware store, nestled among Iris and grasses.
